  1. Les français constitueraient une race?!? C'est vrai qu'ils sont spéciaux, mais de là à les classer dans une race à part entière... Ethnocentrisme on dirait.... Ne vous inquiétez pas... On vous aime dans votre unicité...
  5. Why are they the worst ? Its two fold.... both the product has a design flaw, and the Distributors (GIVI Italy) are not supporting their local importers (DMD) and its passed on down the line to the unfortunate customer. In this case a local Cape Town rental company who spent over R220 000 in 2 years with the plastic Trekker & the "Supposedly Stronger Trekker Outback". This is a real world account of these two products from GIVI (Italy) that are marketed and sold in South Africa by DMD (Daniel Mulder Distributors) as "Adventure Panniers". and typically, Adventure riding involves riding gravel and tar. South Africa and Namibia are known for their hard road conditions - rocks and corrugations that can be bone shaking to say the least. With standard urban commuting, there have been no reports of breakages or panniers falling off. However, in the high usage motorcycle rentals market, they certainly undergo much more punishment than the regular weekend worrier usage. The gripe I personally have is that when you purchase R220 000 worth of panniers (18 sets) you expect some kind of distributor back up service when they start falling off on the very first trip. NOT just get batted off and told that there is "NO WARRANTY" for rental companies. That is the biggest load of Bullshit I have ever heard. Not only did every single GIVI Trekker Mono-lock pannier we bought fall off - but most of them the racks cracked and broke, and we spent a fortune on welding and replacement racks. With the replacement GIVI TREKKER OUTBACK, they also all fell off !!!!! What's the difference between a regular Joe riding to Namibia as and individual, or a foreigner touring Namibia, Cederberg on a rental bike ??? Liability: In one particular instance, a pannier fell off in a group ride and nearly caused a disaster crash in the group behind. THIS IS A LIABILITY issue. Who is responsible ? GIVI ? Why do they break off ? The main cause of both the Plastic Trekker 33L and the Aluminum Trekker Outback 33L falling of is the inferior plastic guide, and mounting point situated on the back lower side of the boxes. The arched mounting groove simply wears down - to the point that the lock catch no longer has enough hold onto the rack and the latch brakes off within a few hundred kilometers of gravel riding if its loaded relatively heavy. Most of the customers who rented our motorcycle were doing long trips of 14 days or more, so its normal to have a lot of luggage inside the panniers. The problem is that they are rated to carry 8-10 kilograms, and thats just a pair of shoes, a couple of T-Shirts and maybe a bottle of water. The first 6 sets of GIVI TREKKER (Plastic) lasted only about 500km each before they wore down and started falling off. So the only solution was to supply a set of straps for each pannier. NOT just one set.. ALL 6 SETS BROKE OFF EVENTUALLY !!!!! GIVI just sent us a copy of a letter from HQ in Italy, stipulating that there was no WARRANTEE !! WTF !! We were assured that the new GIVI TREKKER OUTBACK was going to solve the problem because it was made with two locks and would be much stronger.... So we were suckered into buying a further 12 Sets of the new improved Aluminum OUTBACK double lock system. Racks Cracking and braking: Most of the 18 sets of racks for XT 660Z Tenere and 1200 Super Tenere stayed in tact, but we did have 8 sets where the racks cracked and after welding, just cracked again at another point. Still to this day, we have a pile of Aluminum junk waste metal. What do DMD say ???? F***CK all !! they cannot help. After numerous long emails, offering engineering solutions, and reminding them of the liability...... No answer. Nothing. Nada. Zip !! I guess we just pissed away R220 000 ? - - Craig Marshall - -
